My name is Beatriz Insignares , I’m from Colombia, South America and have been living in Kuwait for the past 5 years. During my 29 years as a teacher I have experienced challenges that have made a profound impact in my life. In 1998 I had the fortune of making part of a team who started the implementation of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy at the school where I happen to be an Alumni. Later, I experienced working in another school that were just starting their first year of PYP International Baccalaureate Program which as well as the Reggio Emilia Philosophy, prepares children to become open minded, inquirers, risk takers and ready to participate actively in a journey full of new experiences. In 2009, I was given the task of launching the first National Elementary Honor Society at my school, where I had the responsibility as the advisor of the group to guide the students into a new challenging adventure. These and my decision of teaching abroad for the first time, have helped me grow and value my mission as a teacher in life.
I’m a proud mother of 3 successful professional ladies who have supported and encouraged me along my journey. I feel I’m very lucky and consider them my source of inspiration. My passion for tennis started when I was 7 years old and nowadays is my full time hobby. I encourage my students to keep a healthy sport life as I’ve always had. Being able to make friends from many different nationalities, cultures and religions has been the most meaningful beauties of living in Kuwait. Every time we gather I learn from them which makes me appreciate my life away from my country.
Being surrounded with the innocence and spontaneous acts of children is always energy for my heart. I will save as a treasure their stories and confessions. One that I will never forget happened almost 20 years ago when I was reading a story about an elephant that was very patient and the kids did not know the meaning of the word “patient” so I gave them examples but they had no clue. Finally I decide to tell them that at that moment I was being very “patient” because I was waiting for them to guess. Suddenly a child says he knows exactly what a “patient elephant” means and he shouted “It means a fat teacher!”
Lovely kids and their innocent hearts …. I feel they keep me forever young.
